What Is Nasya?

Nasya is an important therapeutic procedure in Ayurveda, primarily used for treating disorders of the head and neck region. The word Nasya comes from the Sanskrit word “Nasa,” meaning nose, and it involves administering herbal oils, powders, or juices through the nasal passages.

Purpose of Nasya

  • Balances the Doshas, especially Vata in the head region.
  • Helps in clearing the sinuses, nasal passages, and respiratory tract.
  • Enhances mental clarity, memory, and sensory functions.
  • Can prevent or treat conditions like sinusitis, migraine, headaches, nasal congestion, hair and eye disorders, and sleep disturbances.

Types of Nasya

  • Shodhana Nasya: Cleansing type, used to remove toxins from the head and neck.

  • Pratimarsha Nasya: Mild daily administration for maintenance and preventive health.
